A new curated sales platform with a historical scope, AWT Focus invites a guest curator to reassess existing narratives of modern and contemporary art through works drawn from Art Week Tokyo’s participating galleries.
The inaugural edition of AWT Focus is curated by Kenjiro Hosaka, Director of the Shiga Museum of Art, Otsu. “Worlds in Balance: Art in Japan from the Postwar to the Present” explores the productive tensions that have driven the emergence of new expression in Japan over the past century, such as those between art and craft, abstraction and figuration, material and immaterial, and nature and technology. Installed across three floors of the Okura Museum of Art, the exhibition assembles more than 100 works by 64 Japanese and Japan-based artists representing a broad range of generations and practices.

Isozaki Arata 磯崎新
1931年-2022年。大分市生まれ。1954年東京大学工学部建築学科卒業。1963年磯崎新アトリエを設立。以降、群馬県立近代美術館、ロサンゼルス現代美術館、バルセロナオリンピック競技場など世界各地で建築や都市の設計に携わり、近年では、カタール国立コンベンションセンター、ミラノアリアンツタワー、上海シンフォニーホール、湖南省博物館、中央アジア大学、また中国河南省鄭州市の都市計画なども手がける。ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際建築展日本館コミッショナーなど、世界各地での建築展、美術展のキュレーションや、コンペティションの審査委員、シンポジウムの議長なども務める。近年の個展に「Arata Isozaki:In Formation」上海当代芸術博物館 パワー・ステーション・オブ・アート（開催中）、「磯崎新の謎」大分市美術館（2019）など。「メタボリズムの未来都市」森美術館（東京 2011）、「ジャパン・アーキテクツ1945-2010」金沢２１世紀美術館（2014）、「The Emergence of Contemporary: Avant-Garde Art in Japan 1950-1970」 Paço Imperial（リオデジャネイロ 2016）、「Aerodream. Architecture, design and inflatable structures 1950-2020」Centre Pompidou-Metz（フランス 2021）など国内外の展覧会に多数参加。
Shinoda Taro 篠田太郎
1964年-2022年。東京生まれ。造園を学んだ後に作家活動を開始する。一貫して人間と自然の関わりを深く問う作品は、ドローイング、彫刻、ビデオ、 インスタレーションと多岐にわたり、国際的に高い評価を得ている。パブリックコレクションとして、森美術館、ルイヴィトン財団、日産自動車株式会社、ジュラシック・テクノロジー博物館（ロサンゼルス）などに収蔵。さいたま国際芸術祭（2020年）、Martin-Gropius-Bau（ベルリン、2019年）、シドニービエンナーレ（2016年）、シャルジャビエンナーレ (2015年)、森美術館（東京、2010年）、広島市現代美術館（広島、2002年）など国内外の展覧会にも多数参加。
