Isozaki Arata : Third Space

Arata IsozakI’s solo exhibition “Arata Isozaki: Third Space” will be held at Oita Art Museum from September 27 (Fri) to November 24 (Sun), 2019

Arata Isozaki (1931-) is one of the world’s most greatest architects who crisscrossed the globe unveiling hundreds of projects, built and unbuilt, and has also produced a significant volume of writings.

Inviting Alic Chan, Takahiko Kanemaki, Shigeru Matsui and Ryuji Fujimura as guest curators, this exhibition unfolds philosophy of the architect under the two conceptual themes: IKI and SHIMA.

For the section of IKI, Isozaki will exhibit experimental works that have rarely been introduced, in the areas of performance, installations, curation, and artistic collaboration.
In SHIMA section, on the other hand, the exhibition introduces his urban planning projects published from the 1960s up to the present and explores his logics common to all the projects.

Operating in the space between architecture and areas such as art, design, and music, his creative practice has been a cultural phenomenon. Arata Isozaki: Third Space can be seen as an attempt to shed new light on the thinking of this enigmatic, compelling artist. The exhibition tries to decipher lesser-known aspects of Isozaki through information theory (language) and media theory (video). It is like a labyrinth, to be enjoyed as a riddle with no correct answer.

【磯崎新】　個展「磯崎新の謎」が、大分市美術館にて明日9月27日（金）より始まります。

磯崎（1931-）は世界を縦横に駆け巡り、数百にも及ぶ建築物やプロポーザルとともに多数の著作を発表してきた最も重要な建築家のひとりです。

本展ではキュレーターに、アリック・チェン、印牧岳彦、松井茂、藤村龍至をむかえ、＜いき＞＜しま＞の２つのテーマを軸に磯崎の思考を紐解きます。

＜いき＞では、パフォーマンス、インスタレーション、キュレーションや芸術的コラボレーションなどこれまで紹介される機会の少なかった実験的な作品を中心に展示いたします。
＜しま＞では、活動初期の60年代から現在に至るまでの都市計画を紹介し、各計画に共通する磯崎の理論を追います。

アート、デザイン、音楽、演劇など他の領域との「間(はざま)」で展開してきたこれらの活動は、文化現象の創造的実践であり、魅力的で謎めいた芸術家の思想へ新たな光を当てる試みだといえます。「磯崎新の謎」展では、こうした磯崎のあまり知られていない側面を情報論（言語）とメディア論（映像）として解読し、半世紀以上にわたり、あくなき挑戦を続ける磯崎の姿勢を映し出します。この機会をお見逃しなく是非ご高覧ください。
